What exactly does a decoder chip do?

Original cartridges have a chip that limits the amount of ink that can pass through the cartridge. The amount of ink is depentant on your plotter, but in any event the cartridge will shut off once it has hit that mark.

The decoder chip allows you to use regular or third-party cartridges, which do not have any chip on them and will not shut off due to a certain amount of ink that has passed through the cartridge.

How does the decoder work?

Each cartridge has a chip that allows the printer recognize it. That information is sent through a special cable that connects to the print head and the motherboard of the printer.

The decoder chip is a device that plugs into the mother board of the printer and connects to that special cable that sends the information to the print heads. The decoder will filter the information from cartride, allowing the printer use thirty party cartridges without the chip

So why would you want to use a decoder chip?

You can use your cartridges for longer period of time since they are not restricted by limited ink that can pass through them.

In most cases you can use third party inks with your printer to refill the cartridges.
