The cost-effective Spooling Solution
Print job spooling is one of the core tasks in a network. Inefficient spooling by means of traditional servers (e.g. NT, Unix) causes performance problems, is expensive and requires a lot of administration. The ISD300 puts an end to this. It connects to your network as a specialised network appliance, effectively spooling and managing all print jobs and handling all print queues - simple, cost-effective and highly available! |

Features
- Efficient administration of all print jobs and queues within the network
- + Stopping and deleting print jobs
- + Re-routing print jobs to alternative queues
- (e.g. when a printer is not operational)
- + Prioritising print jobs
- + Creating, modifying and deleting
- print queues
- + Blocking print queues
- (e.g. when a printer is not operational)
- + Creating balance queues
- (virtual queues, representing a group of
- printers and distributing print jobs
- according to the availability of the printers)
- + Creating copy queues
- (simultaneous print out of multiple
- copies on more than one printer)
- Relieves existing server resources
- Using the ISD300 relieves existing servers (mostly NT, UNIX or Linux) from all printing related jobs (up to 40% of the overall server load). This frees resources for other essential tasks within a network.
- Lowest investment costs
- The ISD300 is significantly less expensive than traditional server solutions or comparable products offered by other manufacturers. In addition, the used Linux operating system does not require costly software licenses, and the ISD's browser-based administration makes the purchase of server peripherals (keyboard, video, mouse) unnecessary.
- Simple, easy installation (printers are automatically detected)
- Installation of the ISD300 is straightforward and simple. All printers available in a network are automatically detected by the device and made available as print queues. This saves personnel and service costs.
- Transparent, straight forward management via Browser
- The ISD300 as well as all print jobs and queues may be managed via any standard browser, independent of operating systems, time and location. This ensures maximum transparency.
- Automatic driver installation
- The ISD300 supports the Point-and-Print-Functionality. All necessary printer drivers may be stored on the ISD300 and are automatically installed on the workstations if required. This reduces the administrator's workload, saving time and money.
- Comprehensive access protection
- Access to the browser interface and configu-ration menu is controlled via three login levels:
- + Admin: Access to all data, options and the
- configuration menu
- + User: Access to the management of the
- print jobs, etc.
- + Any: Read-only access
- In addition, user access to a print queue - and the respective printer - can be controlled via the IP sender function. Unauthorized printing becomes impossible.
- Ideal for work groups and department: Silent operation without fan
- The ISD300's design allows that the appliance is not only operated in traditional server room environments, but also in workgroup areas or departments. This allows users to optimally concentrate and reduce network traffic. Silent operation and undisturbed working conditions guaranteed - the ISD300 works without a fan!
- Fully functional ThinPrint_ .print client
- ThinPrint_ is a technology allowing for the com-pression of print jobs and related bandwidth-management. It is widely used in WANs. Just as all SEH InterCon print servers the ISD300 incorporates a fully functional ThinPrint_ client. Print jobs may, therefore, be decompressed directly in the local network, right after the bottleneck of potentially narrow-bandwidth links.
- Platform for filter applications
- The ISD300 has been designed as a spooling and printing appliance. In addition to this basic functionality the ISD300 may be used as a platform for printing-related software solutions of other vendors (e.g. form management). Among the first solutions available for the ISD300 is a barcode filter that eliminates the need for costly printer barcode modules.
- Highly available
- The ISD300 uses a Linux operating system with Journaling File System. Even after a potential failure the entire system would be operational again within just seconds. In addition the device configuration may be saved in an external backup file and reloaded onto the ISD300 if necessary, minimising maintenance and system restore work.
- Energy saving
- The ISD300's hardware is based on system components that do not require any cooling. This reduces energy consumption and the power bill. Additional energy saving is achieved by means of the ISD's browser based administration. It eliminates the need for power consuming peripheral devices generally required to manage a server system.
- Comprehensive security options
- Web page encryption using HTTPs (SSL), certificates
- Integrated DHCP/DNS functionality
- With integrated DHCP/DNS functionality to automatically assign the IP address in networks without DHCP/DNS server
- Support of the Active Directory
